Youth Game Results

On Saturday, the Youth Sharks/Grizzlies squad played their season opener against the Youth Bears/Timberwolves. The Youth Sharks/Grizzlies lost by a few points -- ok, maybe 50 or more, but at least they had fun:

Football Practice: One Time Schedule Change

This Saturday’s practice (April 21, 2007) has been moved from the usual 3 pm (15.00) back. It now will start at 12 noon (12.00) and go until 2 pm (14.00). After practice there will be an opportunity to travel with the Youth Team to Fürth to catch their season opener. Next week practice will be at the regular times.

Krafttraining

The next Krafttraining (Power Training) will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at the Gahm Family Gym in Baiersdorf. Training begins at 7 pm. Training will go until at least 9 pm so its OK if you can't make it at 7 pm -- Just show up!

Directions to Gahn Family Gym in Baiersdorf:
On the A73 heading North from Erlangen, take exit Möhrendorf (first exit after Erlangen-Nord). Turn right, at the roundabout head for Baiersdorf. Now it's straight ahead...past the station in Baiersdorf, straight ahead at the traffic lights. At the studio there is a VW shop across the street.

Concerning the final game:
"Im Finale mobilisierte Erlangen dann nochmals alle Kräfte und war deutlich besser eingestellt gegen die favorisierten Gastgeber. Die Sharks begannen konzentriert und nutzen die erste Angriffsserie gleich konsequent aus. Nach einen langen Pass und einem anschließenden Laufspielzug gingen die Sharks mit 6:0 in Führung. Doch die Generals konterten und bewiesen in ihrer ersten Angriffsserie gute Nerven. Nachdem drei Spielversuche nur zu 5 Meter Raumgewinn geführt hatten, lief Lars van Amerongen dann im vierten und entscheidenden Versuch 35 Meter in die gegnerische Endzone zum 6:6. Nachdem auch der Zusatzversuch in die Endzone getragen werden konnte, gingen die Generals erstmals mit 8:6 in Führung. Kurz vor der Halbzeit sorgte dann die Göttinger Defense für den Ausbau der Führung. Florian Bangert, nahm einen Fumble der Sharks auf und trug den Ball zum Touchdown. Damit lagen die Generals zum Seitenwechsel keineswegs komfortabel mit 14:6 in Führung. Nach dem Wiederanpfiff freuten sich die Fans gemeinsam mit den Generals aber den Ausbau der Führung. Nach einem langen Lauf und anschließendem Zusatzversuch stand es 22:6 für die Gastgeber. Doch die Sharks gaben nicht auf und kamen mit einem weiteren Touchdown zurück ins Spiel. Allerdings bleib den Sharks nur noch rund 1 Minute Restspielzeit, nachdem sie auf 22:14 verkürzen konnten. Die Generals konnten die Restspielzeit dann geschickt runterspielen, ohne noch allzu viel riskieren zu müssen. Spieler des Tages war Lars Bode (33), der insgesamt 42 Punkte erzielte und auch im Finale 4 Punkte zum 22:14-Endergebnis beisteuerte."

Göttingen Bowl XI Results

Different Year -- Same Results. It was a hard fought tournament with the Erlangen Sharks making it to the finals for the second year in a row. And for the second year in a row, they met the Göttingen Generals there! The result was a close (one TD) loss 22 to 14. Second place is nothing to be sad about, but let's just say we are already preparing for next year.
